Governance Committee Election Application

The deadline for this opportunity has passed.

AAPA is seeking fellow and student members to serve on the Governance Committee (GovCom).

Please note that the process changed in 2025:

The AAPA Board of Directors (BOD), House of Delegates (HOD), and Student Board of Directors (SBOD) will each elect a member of the GovCom with terms beginning on July 1.

  • The BOD will elect one candidate for a two-year term.
  • The HOD will elect one candidate for a two-year term. This position will be elected by majority vote of the HOD as part of its elections process. To be eligible for the HOD position, a candidate must be a delegate.
  • The SBOD will elect one candidate for a one-year term.

The GovCom provides ongoing review and maintenance of AAPA’s bylaws and policies to ensure alignment with applicable nonprofit corporate statutes and governance best practices. The GovCom’s duties include reviewing emerging corporate governance issues and practices, establishing consistent policies and procedures to bring parity to all AAPA elections, and reviewing Bylaws resolutions to ensure alignment with existing policies. For further information on the committee’s work, please see the 2025-2026 charges and 2025 report here.

The GovCom conducts its work year-round, which generally entails monthly conference calls with some work carried out via email. Additionally, GovCom members are required to be neutral during the elections cycle and must recuse themselves from election matters if running for office.
